What is the MBTA?

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is the public transportation agency that controls the subways, commuter rail, and most bus lines in the Boston area. It is notable because it is the first subway in America (the Green Line) built in 1897. It also had the first fully electric elevated train system (the Orange Line) and the first train tunnel in the world to dive under a large body of water (the Blue Line). For more info on the system check out the MBTA page at Wikipedia.

The Future MBTA ?

I started this site because I wanted to see what the system might look like when it is expanded. As the T serves a large and dense urban area there have been many proposals over the years to upgrade and expand the system. Some have been built (Orange Line relocation, Blue Line to Revere, Red Line to Quincy and Braintree) and others have not (Blue Line to Lynn, Orange Line to Reading, Red Line to Lexington). This site sets out to visually represent what these extensions might look like and to promote certain projects that might help the city and economy.
